The DS version of the game allows the player to assume the roles of several anonymous soldiers, who are either affiliated with the British S.A.S. or American armed forces. Unlike the console and PC version of Call of Duty 4, players do not directly impact the outcome of the war. Instead of going after the main antagonists of the overall plot (the Four Horsemen: Russian Ultranationalist Imran Zakhaev and his allies), the playable characters in the DS version participate in minor missions, such as escaping from an American army base in the Middle East as it is attacked by enemy forces, or raiding two cargo ships in the stormy black and dark Baltic Sea which may be carrying nuclear materials. The DS version focuses less on the main attempts to end the conflict and more on the supporting role of the various other soldiers who played a part in the war. You can also be a gunner on a AC 130-Spectre Gunship as you are in the regular console/computer version of Call of Duty 4.

The game's protagonist is Ashley Mizuki Robbins, a 13 year old girl who has been raised by her aunt, Jessica, because her parents vanished when she was three years old. She believed that they were dead, but two days before her fourteenth birthday, she received a package. Inside, was a letter from her father and a small machine. The letter said that he would be waiting on Blood Edward Island, an island located off the coast of Washington in the United States. The next day, the day before her birthday, Jessica and Ashley ride over to Blood Edward Island on a boat, but Ashley's father isn't there to greet them. Jessica goes to look for him, but when she doesn't return, Ashley ventures out to search for both of them. While exploring the island, Ashley also befriends "D", a ghost who has lost his memories. Together they enter the Edward Mansion, each looking for answers to their own questions.

3. The game features a navigational map, of fair size, where players search for duelists with the stylus.
4. Players can purchase expansion packs of cards to improve their decks with "KCP" (Kaiba Corp Points) earned from dueling other duelists.
5. The promotional cards released with this game are Silent Magician LV4, Silent Magician LV8, and Magician's Circle. These are confirmed as the Japanese, North American, European and Australian promotions, other territories have yet to be confirmed.
6. The touch screen is used intensively for both deck creation and dueling, however the entire game can be played with the DS controls.
7. When the player reaches Level 100, any duelist can be dueled at any time.
8. A player can acquire all three Egyptian God Cards by reaching Level 100 and dueling the current owners of those cards. (It may require several duels with the owners. They will simply give you the Egyptian God if they have it.)
9. When a player reaches Level 100, the restriction of one banned card per deck is lifted. This will allow the player to use all three Egyptian God Cards in one deck, or any such combination.

In the backstory to Phantom Hourglass's immediate prequel, The Wind Waker, a flood had covered Hyrule, and only the tallest mountains, now islands, still rose above the Great Sea. Phantom Hourglass depicts a different section of this sea than that of The Wind Waker, one which is the domain of the Ocean King. This section of the sea is split into four different quadrants, which can be explored after obtaining their corresponding sea charts. Phantom Hourglass also takes place in a parallel world of The Wind Waker; this is confirmed after Bellum is defeated and the Ocean King tells them they must return to their own world.

Lunar Knights producer Kensuke Yoshitomi confirmed in a 1UP interview (dated 9/23/06) that although Boktai DS/Lunar Knights take place in the same world as Boktai, but at a different time period with fresh characters, it is still not a direct sequel to Boktai. He stated that the many versions of Princess Zelda and Link throughout The Legend of Zelda series are a good representation of this.[1] Nonetheless, a few characters from the previous games appear, and the events of the first three Boktai games are consistently mentioned and heavily influence the game's story.

Pokémon Ranger is set in the Fiore (フィオレ地方, Fiore-chihō?) region. The region's name originates from the Italian word for flower. The region itself doesn't appear in the Pokémon anime series, although the female protagonist of Pokémon Ranger, Solana, has made an appearance. The Go-Rock Squad is the resident crime syndicate of this region. Fiore itself doesn't have any native Pokémon, but has many Pokémon from other regions. It also does not have any Pokémon Trainers. All people who live with Pokémon keep them outside of Poké Balls, like pets, as Pokémon are never trained here. Fiore is located quite some distance from the other regions of the Pokémon world up to the third generation. It is a relatively small island region that is quite mountainous. There are four major settlements in Fiore, each named after the season it constantly experiences — Ringtown (spring) to the west, Fall City (fall) to the east, Wintown (winter) at foot of mountains to the north and Summerland (summer) on an island to the south.

Dawn of Sorrow is set in the fictional universe of the Castlevania series. The primary premise of the series is the eternal struggle of the vampire hunters of the Belmont clan against the immortal vampire Dracula. Before the events of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Dracula was defeated and his castle sealed within a solar eclipse.[20] A prophecy relating to who would inherit Dracula's powers drove the events of Aria of Sorrow, with the protagonist, Soma Cruz, realizing that he was Dracula's reincarnation.[21][22] Soma manages to escape his fate of becoming the new dark lord with the help of his allies.[22] Dawn of Sorrow takes place one year after the events of Aria of Sorrow, where Soma believes that his inherited powers have been lost.[23] The majority of the game is played inside a copy of Dracula's castle, which is further subdivided into several areas that the player must venture through over the course of the game.[4] The futuristic setting of both Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow, as well as starting a storyline after Dracula's defeat, was a result of Koji Igarashi wanting to take a "different route" with Aria of Sorrow.[20]

Ring of Fates is a prequel to the original Crystal Chronicles, taking place thousands of years beforehand, before Miasma plagued the world, during the legendary "Golden Age" where all the races lived in peace (mentioned in Crystal Chronicles)[5], and when the Great Crystal, into which "all fates are etched", protected the people from the "malefic glow of the blood-red moon".[6][7]

In the original Crystal Chronicles, the shards of the Great Crystal, shattered by the fall of the Meteor[8], are used by the numerous settlements throughout the land to ward off the Miasma[9], using myrrh to renew this effect when it wanes[10], and Rebena Te Ra is explored as the monster-filled ruins of one such settlement that was rendered as such almost immediately after the Meteor fell due to its close proximity to the Meteor's point of impact, while in Ring of Fates, the Great Crystal is complete, using memories as the source of its protective effect in much the same way that myrrh powers the miasma-repelling effect of its remnants[11], and Rebena Te Ra stands as an illustrious city and capital of the Golden Age.
